The Weight of Glory
This is a 1941 sermon given by C.S. Lewis, which stands as one of the most widely known and regarded sermons of the twentieth century. In it, Lewis explores humanity’s deep longing for something beyond this world—our true home. He argues that our desires aren’t too strong but too weak, as we settle for fleeting pleasures instead of the eternal joy found in God. Lewis also challenges us to see others as future beings of immense glory or horror, emphasizing the significance of our daily interactions. Ultimately, he calls us to pursue the heavenly reward we were made for—the presence of God Himself.
We’ve just finished a 5-week series on this – highly recommended listening
1 Peter 5:1-14, Exhortations to Elders and the Flock
This is our final week on 1 Peter where we cover Leadership, Humility, and Spiritual Vigilance
Peter gives specific instructions to the elders of the church, urging them to shepherd the flock willingly and humbly. He also advises all believers to humble themselves under God’s mighty hand and to cast their anxieties on Him. Additionally, he warns of the devil’s schemes and calls for vigilance, encouraging believers to resist the devil and stand firm in their faith. Peter closes the letter with final greetings, including a note of encouragement to stand firm in the grace of God.
1 Peter 4:12-19, Encouragement in Suffering
The topic this week is Rejoicing in Suffering.
Peter prepares the believers for the reality of suffering, reminding them not to be surprised by trials. He encourages them to rejoice in suffering, knowing that they share in Christ’s sufferings and will share in His glory. Suffering for being a Christian is not a cause for shame but for glorifying God.
